Storytime does not always begin with “Once upon a time.” Sometimes it begins with a finger pointing at an animal, a bright color or a fabric tab that is too interesting to ignore. Those small discoveries can become the story you share.
Choose a comfortable moment
Sit together in a place where you both feel at ease. A few quiet minutes can be enough. You do not have to finish every page or keep to the same order each time.
Choose a book that suits the child’s age and follow its care and use instructions. With a cloth activity book, take a moment to notice the pages, fabric details and attached features before you begin.
Follow the page they choose
If your child keeps returning to the same picture, stay there for a while. Name what you can see, make a simple animal sound or describe a color. Leave space for a point, a smile or a different idea.
A page with a giraffe might become a story about reaching the tallest leaves. A little bird might be looking for a cozy place to rest. Keep the words simple and let the picture offer the next clue.
Make room for touching and noticing
Explore the book’s intended tactile details together, following the maker’s directions. Notice a soft patch, a different fabric or a page that folds, without rushing toward the next page.
There is no need to turn every detail into a question. Sometimes a small comment and a little waiting time make the moment feel more relaxed.
Let familiar stories change
Try a new voice, notice a different picture or simply enjoy a favorite page together. Shared storytime does not need a polished performance.
At VELUNORIA, we love the little discoveries that happen when curiosity has room to wander. Open a book, follow one small detail and see where your storytime goes.
